Counseling and Consultation Service

Ashley Cooley, MSW, LISW

Therapeutic Style:

My therapeutic style is client-centered, and trauma-informed with a goal of creating an environment where clients feel heard and have a sense of belonging. My approach focuses on the importance of building trust with my clients and meeting them where they are. I have experience working closely with survivors of trauma and I recognize the impact of personal and systemic barriers that can make seeking mental health support difficult for some clients. I often use a combination of systems approach, strengths-based and solution-focused interventions. I value collaboration and working alongside my client to learn what may have influenced their viewpoint while helping them discover and build new skills to better manage current symptoms or concerns.

Supervision Style:

My supervision style is similar to my therapeutic approach with a strong focus on collaboration. It’s important to feel comfortable and supported in supervision to explore clinical decision-making, critical thinking and self-awareness. I emphasize the importance of discussing cultural competency and strategies to help build confidence and independence. I encourage ongoing discussion around self-care techniques and healthy boundaries to promote personal and professional growth within the field.

Professional Interests:

My professional interests include working with those who have experienced trauma, combining therapeutic interventions and resource connection. My clinical background has included at-risk youth and young adults, survivors of sexual violence, those with a history of childhood trauma and concerns related to identity or sense of belonging. I have a strong commitment to advocate and bring attention to the experiences of those who may face bias, racism and micro-aggressions.

Groups and Liaison Roles:

I am a Care Manager at CCS and will serve as a liaison between providers and resources for students at OSU.

Educational Background:

I earned both my BSW and MSW from The College of Social Work here at OSU.

Personal Interests:

Reading, cooking, watching reality shows and spending time with my friends. I like staying active, and I don’t hesitate to stay inside and order in. I’m passionate about watching sunsets, traveling and sports - Sundays are for the Birds (Go Eagles!).
