Counseling and Consultation Service

Tony Spencer, B.S., CT, M.S.

Therapeutic Style:

I like to view counseling as a collaboration between the client and myself. My hopes are that I can create a welcoming environment that allows the client to be their authentic self. I work from a feminist theory perspective and want my clients to feel empowered and feel that they have the mindset/tools to embrace their identities and operate in an effective manner when it comes to their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. In exploring this counseling perspective, I take intervention strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Theory, Rational Emotive Behavioral Theory, and Motivational Interviewing.

Professional Interests:

My professional interest includes working with college students and college student-athletes around concerns related to depression, anxiety, identity development, and disorder eating.

Group and Liaison Roles:

I co-facilitate the Stages group with Joshua Bailey.

Educational Background:

I completed my bachelor’s degree at West Virginia University in sport and exercise psychology. From there I completed a master’s degree in sport and exercise psychology at Georgia Southern University. I am currently earning a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from The Ohio State University.

Personal Interests:

I enjoy hanging out with friends and doing outdoor/physical activities such as hiking, playing tennis, playing racquetball, or exercising. When I am not doing any of those you can find me engrossed in my nerd element which usually involves playing video games or rating a movie I just watched.

My Pronouns:

He/Him/His
