Surviving College 101 Drop In Workshop

WEDNESDAY, 3:30-4:30pm   No Workshop 4/10 [On 4/17, Workshop will be held in Younkin Success Center, Rm 220]

In this 4 part workshop series (come to one, some or all!)  will focus on learning skills to address the many challenges associated with transitioning to college (i.e. stress, relationships, independence, identity formation, and responsibility). We will also engage in dialogue about unique, covert challenges that are often overlooked, such as  depression and anxiety. Our focus is to have a conversation that addresses and normalizes these concerns while utilizing coping skills and campus resources to help students navigate the college experience successfully.

  • 1/16Finding your Authentic Self Students will explore the challenges of navigating campus life, creating meaningful friendships, and creating a new identity as independent adults.
  • 1/23Balancing Act - Students will identify healthy ways to balance the demanding rigors of college and extracurricular freedoms. 
  • 1/30The Power of “The Ask” – Students will learn key tools to increase self-advocacy skills and overcome internal and external barriers.
  • 2/6- Mental Health Awareness - Students will discuss common mental health concerns on college campuses and learn effective coping skills and suicide prevention techniques [CANCELLED]
  • 2/13Thank U, Next: Surviving Breakups Students will explore challenges associated with breakups of romantic relationships and identify ways to cope and care for themselves during this period of change and transition. Guest Facilitated by Kristen Oleksak 
  • 2/20- Mental Health Awareness - Students will discuss common mental health concerns on college campuses and learn effective coping skills and suicide prevention techniques. Guest Facilitated by Louis Appiah-Kubi

  • 4/17Transitioning Back Home - Students will explore and navigate common issues with transitioning back home for short-term and longer-term for breaks and holidays. Students will identify ways to engage in self-care when returning to this environment after the adjustment to college. Guest Facilitated by Kristen Oleksak
