Counseling and Consultation Service

Courtney Arbogast, MSSA, LISW-S

Therapeutic Style:

My goal in the therapy space is to create a safe and comfortable environment for clients to process their concerns and experience their emotions. I strive to practice through a lens of cultural humility that affirms and values all pieces of a client’s identity. My approach is strengths-based and client-centered in nature, utilizing an integrative approach that can be adapted to a client’s needs and goals. My interventions are informed by cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing and interpersonal processing.

Supervision Style:

My supervision style is strengths-based and developmentally informed to meet the needs of the supervisee. I am directive and supportive in working with a supervisee to navigate their growth and meet their professional goals.

Professional Interests:

My professional interests include obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety concerns, family of origin concerns and trauma-informed care. I appreciate the opportunity to support students in navigating the transitions and challenges they experience.

Groups and Liaison Roles:

I co-facilitate the Facing Our Fears group for students struggling with patterns of obsessive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, body-focused repetitive behaviors (hair pulling or skin picking) and certain phobias. I also facilitate the Building Mastery drop-in workshop. At CCS, I participate in the Training Committee and serve as the GTA Program Coordinator.

Educational Background:

I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology and criminology from Heidelberg University. I completed my graduate degree in social work from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University. Prior to joining the CCS senior staff, I completed a Post-Masters Clinical Fellowship here.

Personal Interests:

I enjoy spending my free time with family and friends. I also love starting a new book or catching up on my favorite tv shows!
