Movember

Every November, Student Life’s Counseling and Consultation Service hosts Movember, an awareness month part of the worldwide Movember campaign that encourages men to grow facial hair in the month of November in order to raise awareness of physical and mental health issues. CCS celebrates the awareness month at Ohio State with a combination of outreach events, activities and partnerships across campus.


Movember Kickoff

Monday, November 3, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Ohio Union

All members of the Ohio State community are welcome to join us for a tailgate to celebrate Movember, which is a nationally recognized campaign to raise awareness of men’s mental health issues. We’ll have hot chocolate, some CCS swag and an opportunity to connect with other Ohio State students and staff from Student Life’s Counseling and Consultation Service.

"Taking a Closer Look: The Connection Between Substance Use/Misuse and Mental Wellbeing"

Wednesday, November 5, 6-8 p.m., Virtual Zoom link for the "Closer Look" presentation  

All members of the Ohio State community are welcome to attend this workshop as part of a series for Movember, which is a nationally recognized campaign to raise awareness of men’s mental health issues. This presentation will examine the continuum of substance use among college students and its connection to mental wellbeing. By the end of the presentation, participants will gain insights into reducing risky behaviors and promoting safety and self-care for themselves and for the people around them.

"Understanding Masculinity"

Monday, November 10, 5-6 p.m., Virtual Zoom link for the "Understanding Masculinity" presentation

All members of the Ohio State community are welcome to attend this workshop as part of a series for Movember, which is a nationally recognized campaign to raise awareness of men’s mental health issues. This presentation will review the positive psychology research around health disparities for men and how to understand masculinity. Hopefully this workshop can serve to start conversations with yourself or the men in your life about a new way to view and engage with masculinity moving forward.

"Changing the Narrative about Masculinity and Suicide"

All members of the Ohio State community are welcome to join us to discuss this important topic.  This workshop is part of a series for Movember, which is a nationally recognized campaign to raise awareness of men’s mental health issues. Men are at a significantly higher risk of dying by suicide than women, often because they don't seek help for emotional distress.  This presentation will review the research around health disparities for men and how masculinity can promote help-seeking behaviors and prevent suicide. 

"Intuitive Eating for Men: A Mindful Way to Fuel Your Body"

Friday, November 14, 2-3 p.m., Virtual Zoom link for "Intuitive Eating for Men"

All members of the Ohio State community are welcome to join us for an engaging session on men’s mental health and overall well-being. We’ll look at how intuitive living and eating can boost mental wellness, support a healthier relationship with food and encourage body respect. Through open conversation and reflection, we’ll discuss the impact of societal pressures and diet culture on men and explore ways to challenge weight stigma. This workshop is part of our Movember series, a national campaign dedicated to raising awareness about men’s mental health.

"Breaking the Silence: Raising Awareness of Male Survivors of Domestic Violence"

Thursday, November 20, 4-5 p.m., Virutal Zoom link for "Breaking the Silence"

All members of the Ohio State community are welcome to join us for this important conversation. This workshop is part of a series for Movember, which is a nationally recognized campaign to raise awareness of men’s mental health issues. This presentation will review the research around health disparities for men and how they can be impacted by interpersonal/domestic violence. This inclusive space will explore the unique challenges faced by men who have experienced domestic violence, including societal stigma, mental health impacts and barriers to seeking help.
