Therapeutic Style:
As a psychiatrist, I am evaluating the biologic symptoms of mental health disorders that will respond to treatment with medication. After carefully establishing a diagnosis, recommendations regarding treatment with medication, side effects, and treatment alternatives are discussed. In order to maximize the therapeutic benefit from medications, individual and/or group counseling as well as self-management techniques are often discussed and recommended.
Supervision Style:
During my career, I have over 32 years of experience working in an academic medical center, and I have supervised residents in a multitude of settings, including inpatient psychiatric treatment, outpatient clinics and in college counseling centers at two universities. In addition to making sure accurate assessments and treatment plans are developed, my goal in supervision is to address the unique concerns treating this age group present, and to impart my enthusiasm for treating undergraduate and graduate students.
Professional Interests:
My professional interests are quite broad. Beyond my interest in college mental health, I am also completed fellowships in Forensic Psychiatry and Mood Disorders.
Groups and Liaison Roles:
I am a member of the following organizations:
- Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association
- Ohio Physicians Psychiatric Association
- American College Health Association
- American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law
Educational Background:
After completing my undergraduate degree at Denison University, I attended the Medical College of Ohio (now part of University of Toledo) for medical school. I completed my residency training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and fellowships at University Hospitals of Cleveland in Forensic Psychiatry and Mood Disorders. I am board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology as well as in Forensic Psychiatry.

I love the outdoors, and when I can, I enjoy taking a break in the peaceful serenity of nature. I can also be spotted most weekends on a tennis court, and as a Columbus native, routing for the Buckeyes many athletic teams.
