Office of Student Life

Candace McConaha, MA

Therapeutic style:

My therapeutic style is primarily Existential. I tend to focus on how clients can find purpose and create meaning in their lives. I believe the two central questions of therapy are “who do you want to be?” and “how do we get you there?” I frequently pull techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients find their values and take steps toward their goals. I believe having a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients serves as the foundation for our work together.

Professional Interests:

My professional interests include identity development, alcohol and substance use concerns, stress, and coping.

Educational Background:

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Marshall University in 2017. I completed a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from New Mexico State University in 2020. I am currently in the Counseling Psychology Ph.D. program at Auburn University.

Personal Interests:

I love having a variety of creative outlets including cross stitching, oil pastel paining, and cooking. I also like to end most days by reading, usually mystery/thriller novels. Another of my current favorite pastimes is playing Stardew Valley. However, I find the most meaning in the time I get to spend with friends & family.
