Celebrating Diversity

Student Life’s Counseling and Consultation Service (CCS) seeks to provide a safe, welcoming and affirming environment for those within the university community and beyond. We believe that all humans are bonded not only by universal longings for justice, peace, growth and identity, but also, paradoxically, by our diversity.

The range of human diversity we value includes, but is not limited to, age, disability status, ethnicity, gender, language, nationality, physical appearance, race, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status and political ideology. It is our belief that diversity enlivens, challenges and ultimately strengthens the human spirit, thereby enhancing our resilience and ability to thrive individually and collectively. We recognize that there is variance societally in the extent to which aspects of human difference is embraced. With this in mind, we feel a special obligation as a mental health agency to affirm multiple identities, to respond to oppression in all forms and to educate students about the innovative, culturally sensitive, services we have designed to nurture their physical, intellectual, social, spiritual, emotional and creative wellness.
